Micro Soccer

The introductory program to MIFC for the youngest players eager to discover the game

What is Micro Soccer

Mercer Island FC MicroSoccer is designed for our youngest soccer players. This program is the perfect opportunity to come out and start building on the basics of soccer while playing with friends and having fun!

Micro Soccer is led by our Head of Micro Soccer, Elliot Fauske, along with paid trainers. The main Micro program runs for 8 weeks in the fall, as well as a 6 week spring program.

Micro Soccer offers an optional training on Wednesdays in the fall led by our paid trainers as well as a team game on Saturdays led by volunteer parent coaches (this could be you!). The format for Saturdays begins with an MIFC game day curriculum delivered by parent volunteer coaches in a 15 minute training session. This is a great opportunity to participate in your child's discovery of their love for the game! We finish the Saturday session by playing a game against another Micro Soccer team which allows the kids to put their new learning on display for all their adoring fans :)

*There is no minimum soccer competence needed to volunteer. Feel free to share the coaching role with multiple parents

*MIFC offers a separate Spring micro training clinic on Sunday afternoons.

Training & Game Day Philosophy

Philosophy   The Micro Soccer philosophy is built on the principle of teaching players to be familiar and comfortable with the ball at their feet, and aiding them in being excited participants in trainings and games. We encourage technical discovery through enjoyment and social connections to ensure a deep-rooted connection to the game and their community.

The learning which takes place in Micro Soccer will provide the foundation for players to progress into future MIFC programs, the first steps being into Rec or our more competitive-driven Juniors program.

Game Day   Games are played in 2v2 formats. This is built off the Belgian model of player development, placing the main focus on enjoyment and to allow players huge involvement and touches, and avoid the messy "beehive" which can form with greater numbers of players. Prioritizing 2-player relationships so players can discover their individual understanding of the game along with how to work collaboratively with a partner, players will be encouraged and free to be active participants in games in a setting which allows them total exploration.

Training   Training sessions which are led by our Head of Micro and paid coaches take snapshots of the development pillars, and provide a fun and exciting opportunity for young players to explore and learn more skills. Players will find a fun and supportive environment focused on teaching them foundational skills and helping them to discover their relationship to the game.

Uniforms & Gear

As part of their registration, MicroSoccer players receive a jersey.

Parents are responsible for ensuring their players wear/bring the following to every session:

  • Size #3 soccer ball with their name on it
  • Water bottle
  • Shoes - cleats are not required, but are recommended as the sessions are on grass. Cleats will give better traction, especially on wet grass. Tennis or athletic shoes are acceptable
